Detailed Service Note Content

Situation

 

Early LaserJet 3200 units released with Revision A firmware, which sometimes created an FSE (Fatal System Error) that cannot be reset with a power cycle. 

 

Solution

 

Replace the Revision A firmware DIMM with an upgraded Firmware DIMM.  Note: this Firmware DIMM will be Rev G.  Please note the part numbers of the DIMMS above.

 

Action

 

To Be Performed By: Customer or Service Technician.  HP location (warranty is bench repair) or

Customer installable.

 

Install the Firmware DIMM following the attached Instructions.

HP LaserJet 3200 Product Family - Instructions for Replacing the ROM DIMM

 

INFORMATION:        This document covers the procedure for installing a ROM DIMM in the LaserJet 3200 product. Replacing the ROM DIMM can cause the following settings to be lost:

1.         Fax Header and Company Name.

2.         Any fax settings that have been changed from the default settings.

3.         Programmed speed dials.

If the unit is connected to a computer with the software loaded, this information can be saved to file using the HP LaserJet Device Configuration utility. If the unit is standalone, the Configuration Page and the Speed Dial Report will need to be printed to reenter the settings.

 

Save Settings and Speed Dials.

1.         Open the HP LaserJet Configuration utility.

a.         Click Start, Programs, HP LaserJet 3200, and then Tools.

b.         Click HP LaserJet Device Configuration.

2.         Click Save to File.

3.         In the Save In text box, select a location to save the file.

4.         Type a name for the file in the File Name text box.

5.         Click Save to save the .ini file.

6.         Click Apply in the HP LaserJet Device Configuration utility.

7.         Click Ok to exit the HP LaserJet Device Configuration utility.

 

Retrieve Settings and Speed Dials from a previously saved file.

1.         Open the HP LaserJet Configuration utility.

a.         Click Start, Programs, HP LaserJet 3200, and then Tools.

b.         Click HP LaserJet Device Configuration.

2.         Click Retrieve from File.

3.         Using the Look in box, locate the file.

4.         Highlight the file name and click Open.

5.         Click Apply in the HP LaserJet Device Configuration Utility.

 

Print the Configuration Page

1.         Press the Enter/Menu button one time.

2.         Use the < or > key to select Reports and then press the Enter/Menu button.

3.         Use the < or > key to select Configuration Report and then press the Enter/Menu button.

4.         The unit exits the menu settings and prints the report.

 

Print the one-touch, speed-dial, and group-dial report

1.         Press the Enter/Menu button one time.

2.         Use the < or > key to select Reports, and then press the Enter/Menu button.

3.         Use the < or > key to select Speed Dial Report, and then press the Enter/Menu button.

4.         The unit exits the menu settings and prints the report.

 

Install the ROM DIMM

 

1.         Turn the unit around to gain access to the back of the unit.

2.         Turn off the device by disconnecting the power cord from the unit.

3.         Locate and open the center cover back door. The 3 DIMM slots should be clearly visible.

1- DIMM Slot #1, the outermost slot closest to the door.

2- DIMM Slot #2, the middle slot, holds the 8MB RAM DIMM

3- DIMM Slot #3, the innermost slot, holds the ROM DIMM

 

4.         Remove the 8MB RAM DIMM in slot #2 (the middle slot) from the unit, by releasing the locking mechanisms on each side and lifting the DIMM straight up and out of the unit.

CAUTION:         After removing the 8MB RAM DIMM from the unit, place it in the ESD bag until reinstallation to avoid electrostatic discharge.

5.         Remove the ROM DIMM in slot #3 from the unit by releasing the locking mechanisms on each side and lifting the DIMM straight up and out of the unit.

6.         Remove the new ROM DIMM from the ESD bag.

7.                   Align the ROM DIMM with slot #3 on the back of the unit.

8.         Install the ROM DIMM by firmly pressing down on the DIMM until the click of the DIMM locking into place can be heard.

9.         Place the old ROM DIMM into the ESD bag for shipment.

10.        Reinstall the 8MB RAM DIMM in slot #2 in the same manner as the ROM DIMM was installed in Slot #3.

11.        Close the center back cover door.

12.               Plug the power cord back into the device.

13.               Return the old exchange DIMM using the box and labels inclosed with the new DIMM.
